Mauricio A. Navarro, DVM, MSc, PhD, Dipl. ACVP, is a Veterinary Pathologist at the Turlock branch of the California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) laboratory system, and a faculty member within the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis. He earned a Master of Science degree in Animal Health from the Universidad Austral de Chile, and a PhD in Integrative Pathobiology from UC Davis, followed by a postdoctoral position at the San Bernardino branch of CAHFS. Dr. Navarro has been devoted to the study of animal pathology since 2011, with a special emphasis on clostridial diseases since 2014. He is an expert in veterinary diagnostic pathology, with a specialized focus area in clostridial diseases.

Dr. Navarro has published over 55 articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, including the 1st edition of Clostridial Diseases of Animals and the recent edition of Diseases of Swine. He recently served as a co-editor for the 2nd edition of the textbook Clostridial Diseases of Animals (2026). His research has utilized animal models for Clostridium perfringens-mediated diseases, which have significantly enhanced the understanding of the pathogenic contributions of C. perfringens virulence factors involved in diseases of the intestine (enteritis/enterotoxemia) and skeletal muscle (gas gangrene).

He has presented his research at numerous national and international meetings. Dr. Navarro is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists; he serves as a member of the Editorial Board of Anaerobe and is a Past Director of the Chilean Society of Veterinary Pathology.
