 Dr. Anibal G. Armien, DVM, PhD, DACVP earned his DVM and Master's degrees in Brazil, and a PhD-equivalent in Germany. Dr. Armien’s career began in Panama as the National Director of Animal Agriculture, and Livestock Research Institute (IDIAP). He then served as faculty at both the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Minnesota before joining the University of California-Davis as professor of Diagnostic Veterinary Pathology at the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) in 2020. At CAHFS, Dr. Armien is dedicated to diagnostic pathology. As the head of the Ultrastructural Pathology (UP) section at CAHFS, his main objectives are to apply Electron Microscopy to diagnostic pathology, monitor emerging and foreign animal infectious disease, predict spillovers, discover and characterize pathogens, and study mechanisms of newly discovered disease entities in livestock and wildlife. The UP laboratory is instrumental in validation and development of numerous in-house diagnostic molecular tests. Dr Armien’s work in ultrastructural pathology is supported by more than 150 peer-reviewed publications with a network of national and international collaborators.
